Ingredients
- Topping
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- Gingerbread
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp allspice
- 3/4 cup hot tea
Directions
- Pour the butter into a 9" x 9" baking pan. Lay out the apples and then sprinkle with brown sugar. Set aside.
- For the gingerbread, cream together the butter, molasses, sugar, brown sugar, and egg. Add in all remaining ingredients and mix until completely smooth. Pour over top of the apples.
- Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes, until a toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean.
- Cool for 5 minutes on a wire rack. Invert onto the serving plate and serve warm.
