Yield: 16 servings
Ingredients
- Crust
- 1 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups flour
- Filling
- 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- Topping
- 1 cup oats
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup butter, cold
- Caramel ice cream topping
Directions
- For the crust, combine the butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Add in the flour and mix until it forms into a dough. Press into the bottom of a 9" x 9" silicone baking pan.
- Bake at 300°F for 15 minutes while you prep the rest of the ingredients.
- For the filling, toss the apples with the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. When fully coated, set aside.
- In another bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour for the topping. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter.
- When the crust is done baking, remove from the oven. Layer on the apple filling. It'll be a tight fit, so really pack it in there.
- Sprinkle the topping over the apple filling.
- Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes, then refrigerate for 2 hours.
- When ready to serve, cut into squares. Warm in the microwave for a few seconds, and then drizzle with caramel topping.
