Yield: About 40
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 1/4 tsp yeast
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- Syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 4 cups oil (for frying)
Directions
- Put the warm water into a mixing bowl. Mix in the yeast and let stand 5 minutes.
- Add the flour, sugar, salt, and warm milk. Beat on high until well mixed.
- You may need to add a bit of extra flour. It should be gooey, but not a complete liquid.
- Leave covered in a warm place to rise for one hour.
- Combine all the syrup ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil, and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Heat the oil for frying in a skillet.
- The dough will be really sticky. Pull pieces of dough and toss into oil to cook until golden brown, flipping once with tongs. Transfer to a wire rack.
- If you wet your fingers in a bowl of cold water, that'll reduce how much it sticks. It's good to have a side kick for this step to help with monitoring the frying oil.
- The dough will puff up while frying, so don't throw in too much dough at once.
- Serve warm, drizzled with the honey syrup.
